I watched and saw in a wretched awe
the single flame of a candle burn our house to the ground
we stood on the steps, our lives turned to wrecks
as the neighbors asked about our health
looking into their eyes I saw the surprise
when I told them I saw this coming all along
two lost and lonely souls, spinning out of control
should never have turned to one another
but out of our despair the smoke filled the air
the walls they crackled and they popped
though all our earthly things filled all its wings
hallways and picture frames reduced to ash and charred remains
the only thing I took from the day, the only thing I heard you say
is when you whispered softly in my ear 'oh baby dear...
don't you tell me that our sparks didn't mean a thing,
and don't you dare say, our flame has gone away.'
